The Phoenard What is it?

The ultimate combination of an Arduino-compatible board and your day-to-day Gadget in one handheld Device.
Phoenard is an All-in-one Arduino-compatible prototyping Gadget powered by an 8-bit AVR ATMEGA2560, identical to the one you find in Arduino Mega. It is essentially a pocket-sized prototyping platform which you can use as the 'brain' in your projects, similar to using an Arduino. BUT, it has a lot more features built into a single case developed in such a way that you can use it as your day-to-day Gadget.

Arduino compatible

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Atmel AVR Powered

The high-performance, low-power Atmel 8-bit AVR RISC-based microcontroller ATMega2560 combines 256KB ISP flash memory, 8KB SRAM, 4KB EEPROM, 86 general purpose I/O lines and many more great features.

Precise MotionTracking

The MPU-9150 Nine-Axis (Gyro + Accelerometer + Compass) motion sensor chip or the little brother MPU-6050 (gyro + Accelrometer) allow the Phoenard to interact with its environment. This allows unlimited variety of ideas.

Bluetooth 4.0

Use the internal Bluetooth 4.0 module to create wireless projects, easily transfer files between your phoenard and other devices, share new cool sketches with your friends, so they can test it out or just play games with them.

2.8" Touchscreen

Let your Project look beautiful. On the 2.8 Inch TFT LCD Touchscreen with 240*320 resolution and 65535 color range you can display whatever you want. With the backlight it doesn't matter no longer where or when you want to work.

MP3 decoder onboard

The Integrated MP3 Decoder VS1053B turns your Phoenard into a portable media station. With the integrated MicroSD card holder and the 3.5mm Headphone Jack you will never leave the House without your favourite Music in your Pocket.

'Operating Environment'

To complement Phoenard's mobility, portability and self-sufficiency, we are also introducing the Phoenard Operating Environment. The operating environment allows the user to store thousands of Arduino sketches on-board, similar to developing apps for your smartphone, but instead based on Arduino. Its graphical user interface has been implemented to minimize the hassle of operating the Phoenard. Modifying, adding, giving a name, drawing an icon are all possible to do on the Phoenard directly; your SD card can remain in its socket.


Phoenard Extensions Boards

Phoenard comes with two kinds of extensions, the external extensions and the on-board extensions. We named the Phoenard external extensions 'Phoenex'. It is a specially designed extension made specifically for Phoenard. It can easily be connected to your project as it is a breakout of usable GPIO pins. Up to now, we have been making three kinds of Phoenex:

  • Phoenex Shield: For attaching Arduino shields to the Phoenard
  • Phoenex Bread: For prototyping on a breadboard
  • Phoenex Proto: For a rigid connection by soldering your projects on the board

Phoenon is an on-board extension which can be embedded onto the back of the Phoenard. It allows you to add cool features that you can bring along with you anywhere. It is connected to the main board through the 12-pins FPC connector. It breakouts the common interface for you to play with such as the I2C, SPI, Pin interrupts and a couple of GPIO.

DIY Gadget Plug and Play

How many Arduinos or other development boards do you have laying around left unused? And how much money have you spent on those? Well, if your answers are 'a lot', then Phoenard might be a breakthrough as your next prototyping platform.
The Phoenard, while not being used as a prototyping platform, allows you to use it as your day-to-day Gadget! Regardless whether you are at home, on the road or even at work, the Phoenard will find its function that fits your needs. Sure, you can use our default gadget sketches such as Phone, Mp3 Player, Game controller, Midi player or several others, but what is more exciting is to see what gadget sketches you will create!

Switching between projects is as easy as plugging/docking it into extensions Phoenex or Phoenon and selecting the appropriate sketch. Each extension board can be dedicated for a specific project, so there is no need to struggle around the next time you want to run that project.
